The Top Taste Challenge is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated segments of the upcoming BC Gourmet Arts Festival. This high-stakes competition always brings a twist of excitement and a dash of heat to the festivities, and this year is no exception.
Last year, the event involved local food trucks competing on the condition they include a specific ingredient: bacon supplied by Birch & Boar. While we'd like to say it was a secret ingredient, the competing businesses received their stock a few days before. The first year's competitors included White Goose Bistro, Kusina Tasty Food, The Open Door Café, and the ultimate winner of the event, Baller Food.
2023’s secret ingredient (which is obviously not a secret) is sure to light a fire under the competitors: Haunted Peach hot sauce. A fusion of fiery heat and sweet, this hot sauce promises to add a unique flavor profile to the challenge. But here's the twist: competitors can't just add a few dashes on top of their creations. Furthermore, the dish must be easy to consume in two to three bites. This ensures that the dish's heat, sweetness, and other flavors can be savored fully in a few mouthfuls and also allows the judges to taste a wide variety of dishes without getting too full.
